Abstract
Rural areas in Africa are frequently located close to forests and habitats which are favourable for many dangerous endemic species of mammals and reptiles. Attacks by large animals and venomous bites and stings are environmental and occupational hazards, especially to rural agricultural workers and their families (Happold 1995).
