Abstract

Mumps is an enveloped negative-sense, single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the Paramyxoviridae family. Humans are the only reservoir and transmission is via respiratory droplets. The incubation period is 2–3 weeks and individuals are contagious from 2 days before and 5 days after the onset of parotitis.
