Biography

Sophie Dunkley collaborates with disease control programmes to deliver impactful public health interventions.
She has been working at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) since 2014, providing technical support and helping to build the capacity of field staff. A large component of her roles has been mapping, data management, and monitoring and evaluation. Sophie is currently working on tsetse control projects for sleeping sickness elimination.
Prior to joining LSTM, she worked several missions for Médecins Sans Frontières as an Epidemiologist, contributing to a variety of different health projects.

Research interests

Sophie's interests lie in epidemiology, disease control and public health. She is drawn predominantly to operational research questions, seeking to understand programmatic problems, find solutions, and optimise procedures. She is focused on contributing to an immediate and lasting impact to public health programmes.

Teaching

Sophie leads the short course on making maps for public health, is co-convenor on the development of a disease control programme module, and contributes to teaching on other modules on subjects such as geographic information systems and vector control. In addition to teaching at LSTM, she also designs and delivers bespoke training to disease surveillance and control staff in English, French and Spanish.
