Biography
Olusegun Akinwande is a Clinical Trials Data Manager at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). He is a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, statistical analysis, and stakeholder engagement. With more than a decade of expertise, he has contributed to global health research through high-quality data management and advanced analytics in infectious and non-infectious disease studies.
Olusegun holds a Master of Science in statistics and a master’s in information management from Ahmadu Bello University.
Prior to his current role, he held key data management roles at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Oxford and Nigeria Center for Disease Control. He has supported large-scale public health projects with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the African Union Commission, playing a critical role in epidemic response and surveillance.
In addition to research and data management, Olusegun has an academic background as an Assistant Lecturer at Bingham University Nigeria, contributing to the development of future professionals in statistics and data science. His work has been published in leading journals, demonstrating a commitment to advancing statistical research and evidence-based public health interventions.
Recognised for outstanding contributions to global health, he received Meritorious Service Award from the African Union Commission and the Government of Sierra Leone for his pivotal role in the Ebola outbreak response. Olusegun was also honoured with a certificate of recognition for exceptional contributions to the fight against Ebola in Sierra Leone.
Research interests
Olusegun supports research teams across all themes, departments, and student groups at LSTM and its global hubs. This includes designing and implementing data systems to enable real-time data collection and support for data collectors. He also actively assist academics with all data-related needs.
Teaching
Olusegun's role involves active capacity building, training, and technical support for individuals in the research grants he supports.
