Biography
Lorelei Silvester is Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s (LSTM's) Research Culture Programme Manager. She works closely with Professor Hilary Ranson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research Culture and Integrity, to develop and implement institutional initiatives to improve the working environment and research culture. She oversees LSTM's action plan to meet the commitments set out in the Researcher Development Concordat and works with staff and academic departments to gather feedback on their experiences of LSTM's research environment. She is currently supporting a Wellcome Trust funded initiative to enhance research management and knowledge translation in LSTM and its global hubs, developing a set of tools and resources to share best practice across the programme manager cohort. Lorelei is also the Programme Manager for the Gender Equity Action Committee, which oversees the implementation of a five-year Athena Swan Action Plan.
Previously, Lorelei has worked as a Research Programmes Manager in a number of different research groups at LSTM.
Research interests
As a Programme Manager, Lorelei is interested in the factors that contribute to high quality research and cohesive partnerships. She has conducted research into institutional capacity strengthening, particularly in relation to research management and organisational systems. She has worked with international partners to develop and implement institutional plans to develop individual and organisational capacity. She is interested in the role that programme managers and support staff can play in maximising the outcomes and impact of research projects and partnerships.
