Personal profile
Biography
Lewis Jays completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2020 at the University of Salford. During his studies he developed a strong foundation in laboratory techniques and scientific methodologies, which set the stage for his professional career in biology.
Following graduation, Lewis worked at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton as a Lab Assistant and Associate Practitioner in the microbiology department. In this role he performed COVID-19 screening for asymptomatic staff using Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification. This work gave Lewis hands-on experience with molecular diagnostic techniques.
In 2022 Lewis moved to the Liverpool Insect Testing Establishment at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine where he further honed his expertise in biological research, specifically entomology. In this role Lewis is involved in rearing mosquitoes and conducting bioassays with the focus of testing insecticide efficacy, mosquito behaviour, and genotyping. He also uses specialised equipment such as PEET Grady chambers to study mosquito behaviour and insecticide efficacy under controlled conditions.
Research interests
Lewis is particularly interested in mosquito resistance, mosquito behavior, and genotyping.
