Biography
Lauren Kerruish graduated from the University of Salford with a BSc in Biology with studies in the USA. She then completed an MRes in Clinical Sciences, specialising in Clinical Infection and Global Health. Lauren is currently a Senior Research Assistant and PhD student specialising in immunology and virology diagnostics. She joined the Liverpool Vaccine Group at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in 2021 and has been involved in multiple vaccine and challenge model studies since. Her research focuses on respiratory infections, with a particular interest in the progression and immune response patterns of respiratory syncytial virus amongst infants. Lauren’s academic and professional background bridges diagnostic virology and translational immunology, and she has developed expertise in a range of laboratory techniques, including molecular diagnostics and immunoassays.
Research interests
Lauren’s research interests span virology, immunology, and public health, with a particular emphasis on molecular diagnostics and epidemiology. She is especially interested in the mechanisms and impact of respiratory infections, including the interplay between viral and bacterial pathogens, and how these insights can inform prevention strategies such as vaccine development and deployment. She is especially interested in the implications of respiratory syncytial virus coinfection with streptococcus pneumoniae and how such interactions influence disease severity and outcomes.
