Biography

Ismael Kawooya
is the Africa Evidence Leadership Award 2024 winner and International Health Policy Fellow 2023. He is a knowledge broker with nearly ten years of experience operating at the nexus between evidence and policy, especially in urgent or crisis situations. Ismael has dynamic and robust expertise that he always seeks to improve and integrate into his role as a knowledge broker, such as advanced epidemiological and statistical analysis, social network analysis, process mapping, mixed methods, rapid evidence synthesis, design thinking, evidence and policy mapping, packaging, citizen engagements, and applying digital tools to improve the efficiency of these methods. Additionally, he has supported and mentored over 20 teams to design, develop and implement rapid response services for evidence-informed policymaking. He is working on several initiatives to push the frontiers of EIPM in Africa, such as nurturing the next generation of leaders in EIPM in Africa and applying innovative approaches for EIPM, especially in urgent and crisis situations.
