Biography
Danielle Logan joined Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in 2022 as a research technician based in the Liverpool Insect Testing Establishment after recently graduating from Liverpool John Moores University with a BSc in Zoology. Her final year project focused on the presence of the parasitic nematode angiostrongylus vasorum in gastropod hosts across North West England. Within her role as research technician she assists in maintaining various species of susceptible and resistant mosquito colonies alongside performing numerous bio-assays that determine the effectiveness of different chemical compounds used in the control of mosquito species. She carries this out adhering to good laboratory practice guidelines. Danielle is also a member of LSTM’s Technician Committee, whose aim is to improve visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research through the implementation of the Technician Commitment Action Plan. Danielle is also involved in teaching and takes part in public outreach events to help people understand science in a way that works for them.
Research interests
Danielle’s main research interests are vector control tool development good laboratory practice and compliance, evaluation of active and volatile compounds, and evaluation of mosquito behavioural responses to insecticide treated nets.
Teaching
Danielle provides teaching support on testing vector control products in a good laboratory practice environment across MSc programmes. She helps students understand how to work adhering to these guidelines and shows them how a career in an industry-based setting may look.
