Biography

Daniel Evans is a Research Technician in the Infection Biology & Therapeutics group within Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine's (LSTM’s) Tropical Disease Biology Department. He is involved in supporting several research projects focusing on human liver spheroid models and malaria biology (specifically P. vivax hypnozoites). Daniel is also involved in general laboratory maintenance for the group.
Following the completion of his BSc (Hons) at Liverpool John Moores University in 2022, he completed an MSc in Tropical Disease Biology at LSTM. During this MSc he completed a research project focusing on the glycosylation pathways of the Zika virus' envelope protein within mammalian and insect cell-lines, with additional in vivo work for the project involving the mosquito species aedes aegypti.

Research interests

Daniel’s research interests lie primarily in the field of malaria research, but due to his work within the Infection Biology & Therapeutics groups, he is also interested in other pathogens. This includes the usage of fluorescence spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy to measure reactive-oxygen-species induction by the anti-relapse malarial compounds, the 8-aminoquinolines, to further the understanding of the 8-aminoquinoline mechanism of action, and how combination therapies for relapse malaria may produce better clinical results. Data produced from this has been used to simulate dose-response curves and pharmacological parameters.
