Biography

Christopher Murray is a Research Assistant in the Emergency Obstetric and Quality of Care Unit at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). He contributes to research aimed at improving maternal and neonatal health in low-resource settings. Christopher’s role involves supporting studies that assess and enhance the quality of care provided to mothers and newborns, particularly in emergency obstetric situations.
He assists in designing, implementing, and analysing research projects that evaluate interventions, such as training programs for healthcare workers, and the effectiveness of clinical guidelines. A key aspect of his work includes data collection and management, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of findings that inform policies and practices at a country level.
In addition to research, Christoper is involved in writing reports, preparing presentations, and contributing to academic publications. His role at LSTM has deepened his knowledge of maternal health, epidemiology, and healthcare systems, fostering my passion for global health research. By working in this dynamic and impactful unit, he plays a small but significant role in improving outcomes for mothers and newborns worldwide.

Research interests

Christoper has three main areas of research interest. Quality of care in maternal health services – including evaluating and improving clinical guidelines and protocols, assessing the effectiveness of training programs for healthcare workers, and enhancing respectful maternity care and patient experiences. Implementation science and health systems strengthening – including translating research findings into real-world healthcare improvements, understanding barriers to effective maternal health interventions, and strengthening healthcare systems to provide sustainable, high-quality maternal and newborn care. And global health and health equity – including reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in low-and middle-income countries, addressing health disparities and improving access to essential obstetric care, and exploring innovative solutions to improve healthcare delivery in under-resourced settings.
