Biography

Aparna Perumbulakkal is a PhD student at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) with a background in medicine and a keen interest in parasitology and infectious medicine. Her transition into research was driven by the profound impact of infectious diseases, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a foundation in clinical medicine, Aparna has actively engaged in public health initiatives, including organising medical camps. She completed her master's degree in microbiology at Stockholm University, which helped establish her research foundation. Aparna’s master's thesis investigated the malarial parasite sexual cycle and her current project focuses on advancing our understanding of how malarial metabolites impact host systems.

Research interests

Aparna's research interest lies in global health, infectious diseases, and parasitology. She is particularly focused on understanding host pathogen relationships, and novel therapeutic targets. Aparna is passionate about translating scientific discoveries into real-world applications, bridging the gap between research and public health interventions.
