The Department of Clinical Sciences (DoCS) is a cornerstone of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s mission to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations across the globe. Our department is a hub for translational research, where scientific innovation is transformed into practical solutions—from laboratory discovery through clinical trials to evidence synthesis, teaching, policy change, and real-world health impact.
Our work addresses some of the most pressing health challenges of our time, with a focus on improving the management of important diseases in the tropics, key areas of research include:
- Tuberculosis
- Malaria
- Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR)
- Emerging Infections & Sepsis
- Global Child Health
- Girl’s & Women’s Health
DoCS brings together leading researchers, clinicians, educators, and professional support teams who work across a wide spectrum of clinical science disciplines. Our collaborative, multidisciplinary approach is designed to generate actionable evidence that informs health policy and improves clinical practice in both low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and the UK.
We are proud to support research skills units:
- Experimental Medicine (HCF)
- Health Economics
- Global Health Trials
- Institute for Resilient Health Systems
- Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory (and post travel advice and clinic)
